Avenue Q at the Phoenix Theatre
September 9, 2018 (Sunday)

Travel with us to the Phoenix Theatre to see the hit musical Avenue Q. Winner of the Tony® “triple crown” for best musical, best score and best book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. There, he meets Kate (the girl next door), Rod (the Republican), Trekkie (the internet sexpert), Lucy the Loose (need we say more?), and other colorful types who help Princeton finally discover his purpose in life! Prior to the show, we will have a group lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Join us for this fun outing!

Kitt Peak National Observatory Night Tour
October 4, 2018 (Thursday)

Travel with us to Kitt Peak in the Quinlan Mountains west of Tucson. Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO), part of the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO), supports the most diverse collection of astronomical observatories on Earth for nighttime optical and infrared astronomy. We start at the Visitor Center, where we will examine the astronomy exhibits and meet our knowledgeable and informative docents. While enjoying a box dinner, we receive an introduction to astronomy and the night sky. After a short walk to view the sunset, we will learn how to identify stars and the constellations. Once back outside, we will explore the night skies with high-powered binoculars before viewing impossibly distant objects through the 2.1-meter domed telescope. Come along with us and discover your universe!

Warm clothes are a must. Good walking shoes (closed toe), pants (not shorts) and a jacket are highly recommended. (In case of inclement weather, we reserve the right to insert an alternate astronomy program presented by Kitt Peak.)

West Side Story at the Phoenix Theatre
October 13, 2018 (Saturday)

Join us for a trip to Phoenix to see the incomparable musical “West Side Story”. Based on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” West Side Story created immediate controversy when it opened on Broadway in 1957. Tony and Maria just want to be together, but their rival street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, can’t allow that. The dark energy of the gangs contrasts with the optimism of songs from the score such as “Maria,” “America,” “Tonight,” and “I Feel Pretty.” The electrifying choreography set new standards for athleticism and risk. We will have lunch at Charleston’s Restaurant in Chandler before settling in for Phoenix Theatre’s high energy production of this classic tale of teenage love in a world swirling with obstacles, hope and conflict.

Martin Auto Museum and Adventurous Stills
October 25, 2018 (Thursday)

Come with us for automotive adventure and a spirited tasting! First, we will visit the Martin Auto Museum in Phoenix. The Martin now has five showrooms with more than 60 vehicles, highlighting everything from an 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen to a 1930 convertible Duesenberg “J” Boattail Speedster to a 1992 Lister Corvette, which is 1 of only 3 of these concept cars ever built. The museum also has a collection of automobile related memorabilia and a vintage carousel. If you enjoy automobiles even a little bit, this collection will amaze you! We will then enjoy a delicious lunch at Bobby Q Restaurant in Phoenix before a tour and taste at Adventurous Stills, an award-winning small-batch craft distillery in Tempe where the spirits are wholly produced from grain to bottle by hand in house. Tis The Season for spices and colonial history and luminarias, oh my! (Not to mention outstanding dining and shopping and art galleries, and more, oh my!!) What a lovely day we have planned – first, a trip to the Santa Cruz Spice and Chile Factory, a long-established family-run store in Tumacácori. We will then take a guided tour of the Tumacácori National Historical Park. The buildings and grounds have been well-preserved, and the mission church-style visitor center is beautiful. Next, we will head to the Stables Restaurant at Tubac Country Club for a late, delicious lunch, before allowing ample time to explore Tubac’s shops and galleries into the early evening so that you may see the hundreds of luminarias lining the buildings, walls and sidewalks of this iconic artists’ town.
