Tour in the Spotlight

The Best of the Bay Area Tour
December 12 to 17, 2018

This 6-day and 5-night tour immerses you in San Francisco and the surrounding area, which is especially festive around the holidays. View breathtaking scenery, eat fantastic meals, and explore one of the world’s spectacular cities. We spend 5 nights at a wonderful hotel in a terrific locale, and experience the Bay area and its wonders.

Day 1 we fly to the Bay and transfer to our rooms at the Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco. Overlooking the Bay, this highly rated hotel is in the heart of Fisherman’s Wharf – the perfect location for exploring the area. We will have a splendid welcoming dinner this night. Day 2 we take a guided driving tour of the ever-changing and majestic city with so many notable landmarks. This afternoon we have a group lunch and then head across the Golden Gate Bridge and into the picturesque coastal town of Sausalito, and on to visit the famous redwoods of Muir Woods National Monument Park. We will have free time this evening to dine and explore San Francisco. Day 3 we go north for the day to Napa, starting with a gourmet lunch and ride on the Napa Valley Wine Train. Established in 1864, it is part distinctive Napa Valley fine dining restaurant and part museum – made up of exquisitely and faithfully restored vintage early 20th century Pullman cars. With its Honduran mahogany paneling, brass accents, etched glass partitions, and plush armchairs, the Wine Train also evokes the elegant glory days of luxury train travel of the early 1900s. You get to sit back, relax, and savor every delicious bite and extraordinary scenery. We get back in time for you to explore San Francisco at night, seeing the beautiful holiday lights and shops at Union Square and the waterfront. Day 4 we journey south for the day to the Monterey and Carmel area. Driving along Highway 1, we are treated to the Pacific Ocean and mountain views, and quaint towns along the way to the Monterey Bay, where we will drive along the famous 17-Mile Drive, a beautiful stretch of land and sea with stops at the famous Seal Rock, the majestic Cypress Point, the unique Pebble Beach and the Lone Cypress Tree. After a tasty group lunch we’ll visit the charming Carmel-by-the-Sea to stroll along the streets and enjoy some of the best specialty shops and art galleries, and then Monterey to stop at Cannery Row, Old Fisherman’s Wharf and Monterey Bay Aquarium. Day 5 we further explore San Francisco’s magnificent parks and museums, including Golden Gate Park, an urban park that’s over 1,000 acres and home to gardens, museums and recreation areas. We take in the California Academy of Sciences, with its astronomical exploits, dazzling gems and minerals, and living examples of extraordinary plants and animals, and the Japanese Tea Gardens, awakening of the senses with the sounds of an azalea-covered waterfall and the intoxicating scent of sweet wisteria. Then we visit the architecturally stunning de Young Museum, made from copper and complete with a 144-ft observation tower. It is like a beacon calling art lovers to this primitive-yet-futuristic mothership. Their permanent collection is ambitious and includes 27,000 paintings, sculptures, artifacts and crafts ranging from African textiles to pre-Columbian art to modern paintings. We then have a group dinner celebration in Little Italy. Day 6 we travel back to Arizona with great memories of this tour of San Francisco and the Bay Area.
