Boyce Thompson Arboretum & Superstition Mountain Museum

November 17, 2018

Before the holiday crush begins, come with us to explore the beauty of the desert and the unique history of Arizona’s mining days! We begin our day with a visit to the Superstition Mountain Museum in Apache Junction. With a 4900-square-foot exhibit hall focused on the Lost Dutchmen mining era, an original 20-stamp mill and surviving buildings from Apacheland Movie Ranch (including the chapel from the Elvis Presley movie “Charro”), this 15-acre site will keep you busy!

After a tasty lunch at Dirtwater Springs Restaurant, we journey to Boyce Thompson Arboretum at the base of towering Picketpost Mountain. A paved outdoor path displays plants from many of the Earth’s deserts alongside Sonoran Desert vegetation. We’ll allow time for you to explore their wonderful plant interpretive center and demonstration gardens. Join us for a quiet, outdoor excursion before the holiday steamroller arrives!
