Built in 1904 for two Riordan families, this is an impressive reminder of gracious living in a small, territorial logging town. We’ll then check-in to Little America Flagstaff for a two-night stay. This is one of our favorite hotel properties, and we will have a delicious get-acquainted dinner. (D)
Day 2 - Day of the Dead Festival & Arizona Snowbowl
We visit the Museum of Northern Arizona to see their annual “Celebraciones de la Gente,” – Day of the Dead Festival! After a no-host lunch in downtown Flagstaff we’ll travel to Arizona Snowbowl to enjoy a scenic chair-lift ride. Arizona Snowbowl is located on the western side of Mt. Humphreys and is what remains of an eroded, dormant stratovolcano. Enjoy the smell of fresh pine as we travel along the treetops. Early evening, we revisit the Museum for the viewing of the community altars with their shimmering candles and strolling mariachis. (B)
Day 3 - Meteor Crater
We travel East to Meteor Crater & Barringer Space Center. This location is the breathtaking result of a collision of an asteroid traveling 26,000 miles per hour and Earth, 50,000 years ago. Next, we’ll travel to the La Posada Hotel to enjoy lunch in the Turquoise Room. After lunch we’ll join a local historian for a tour of this famous property! This afternoon we’ll check-in to the in Show Low Hampton Inn for a two-night stay. (B,L)
Day 4 - Mogollon Rim
We’ll take a ride along an aspen-laden highway to the tiny hamlet of Greer. After we enjoy lunch we take a short hike to visit the Mogollon Rim overlook. Dinner is at a local establishment. (B,D)
Day 5 - Payson to Tucson
Finds us enjoying a scenic ride to Payson for lunch and then along the B-line highway back to Southern Arizona with great memories of these special Arizona spots! (B)
