Day 1: Tucson to Spokane, Washington

We fly to Spokane, Washington and board our waiting motorcoach, and drive across Idaho’s northern panhandle to Wallace, where we lodge one night. Wallace continues its 100-plus year run as the world’s largest silver producer – making it the richest mining town in existence and the last town entirely listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Day 2: Whitefish, Montana

We tour the tunnels in the Sierra Silver Mine, then drive into Montana and lodge one night in Whitefish, just outside Glacier National Park. (B,L)

Day 3: Glacier National Park Tour

We make the short drive into Glacier, where a 1930s “jammer” (roll-top bus) takes us on the Going-to-the-Sun Road.  We’ll travel through the great cedar and hemlock forests that lie within the Lake McDonald Valley and stand on top of the Continental Divide. At St. Mary’s Visitors Center we learn about the park’s geologic and human history, its wildlife and vegetation. Lunch at Johnson’s of St. Mary, then we cross into Canada, visit the Remington Carriage Museum, where we take a carriage ride. One night’s lodging in Lethbridge. (B,L)

Day 4: Calgary, Canada

We visit Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage site. Then we take a break in Calgary with a visit to Calgary Tower before continuing to Banff to lodge for two nights. (B)

Day 5: Banff, Canada

In Banff, we can visit the Falls of the Bow River and Cascade Rock Gardens or take time to explore Banff’s delightful shops. In the afternoon, we ride gondola cars up Sulphur Mountain. The views are breathtaking as we soar to the top to experience a stunning bird’s-eye view of the six incredible mountain ranges. Later we can soak in the Upper Hot Springs or return to Banff for free time. (B)

Day 6: Banff National Park

Scenery along the Icefields Parkway is amazing! We stop to see Peyto Lake’s beautiful turquoise color. Then we board a large snow coach that takes us onto Athabasca Glacier. Lunch at the Icefields is a special treat. We lodge one night in Jasper. (B,L)

Day 7: Jasper and Radium Hot Springs

As we depart Jasper, we stop at Maligne Canyonthe deepest canyon in the Rockies. We turn back towards Banff National Park, stop at Saskatchewan River Crossing, then on to the Chateau at Lake Louise. After free time, we drive to the town of Radium Hot Springs, B.C. and lodge one night. (B)

Day 8: British Columbia to Idaho

We drive through British Columbia, return to the U.S. in Idaho and continue to Spokane for one night’s lodging at the beautiful Davenport Hotel. We enjoy a Farewell Dinner tonight. (B,D)

Day 9: Flight Home

It’s time for our thoughts to return home. We travel to the Spokane airport for our flight to Tucson. (B)

ACTIVITY LEVEL RATING

Level 4: Active

Expectations: The tour includes well-paced walking tours with regular breaks. Up to 2-3 hours of walking each day. To fully take advantage of all this tour has to offer, guests need to be able to walk longer distances, climb several flights of stairs and navigate steps and uneven terrain walking for extended periods of time over more difficult terrain (e.g. cobblestones, city hills, stairs without handrails, limited or no access to elevators). Your itinerary can include significant changes in temperature and altitude and may require a higher number of longer travel days with morning and/or evening activities. Most trips will feature long touring days, many full-day excursions and a full and active itinerary with a faster pace and longer distances. Excursions require standing and walking to city centers where coaches are prohibited.

Appropriate for: Travelers who are physically fit, expect a vigorous pace and enjoy participating in two to three hours of physical activity per day.

Visit our Activity Level Ratings page under Plan Your Tour for full information on the ratings system.

If you feel your Tour Director helped you enjoy your tour, we suggest you enclose a gratuity in an envelope and present it individually at the end of the tour. Simply as a guideline, one may consider a per person, per day gratuity of $8.00 per tour guide as an average to be modified by one’s own personal experience. All hotel porterage and airport sky cap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers.

LIVERY

For your convenience we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)
