Day 1

We depart Southern Arizona and travel to breathtaking Sedona for lunch, where we are surrounded by red-rock buttes, steep canyon walls and pine forests. We then travel via Oak Creek Canyon, with its colorful rocks and unique formations, to Flagstaff, where we will visit the world-famous Lowell Observatory and take in the open skies. We have a welcome dinner at the Silver Pine Restaurant before our overnight stay at the Little America Hotel.

Day 2

This morning we tour Wupatki National Monument, an ancient pueblo nestled between the Painted Desert and Ponderosa highlands of northern Arizona. After a lunch stop in Cameron, we visit the Navajo Code Talkers Museum, which has actual gear and tools used in battle, victory stories, transcripts of a Code Talker and exceptionally detailed photos. We then head to the heart of Monument Valley and stay overnight at Goulding’s Lodge, with magnificent views of the landscape made famous in so many movies.

Day 3

Today we board jeeps that take us on a 17-mile scenic loop drive of Monument Valley, along with entering restricted areas which include beautiful arches, ancient ruins, and rock art. We will also visit a Navajo Hogan where we will watch a rug-weaving demonstration by a local artist. This afternoon we tour the area via motorcoach and travel to inspiring Chinle, where we are at the mouth of Canyon de Chelly National Monument, a vast park on Navajo tribal lands. Its prominent features include Spider Rock spire, about 800-feet tall, and towering sandstone cliffs surrounding a verdant canyon. We stay overnight at the Thunderbird Lodge, blessed with a stunning location and the only lodging at the park.

Day 4

This morning we take a jeep tour of Canyon de Chelly. This takes us onto the canyon floor where pueblo style ruins tuck into the caves and rock shelters abound. These ruins were occupied during a period of 348 to 1300 AD. Today Navajo families make their living by farming and ranching the valley floor. All of this is surrounded by marvelous geologic formations and stunning scenery. This afternoon we tour Petrified Forest National Park, which straddles the border between Navajo and Apache Counties, and known for its rock formations and fossils, especially fallen trees that lived in the late Triassic Period, about 225 million years ago. Tonight, we travel to Winslow and enjoy a relaxing farewell dinner at the venerable Turquoise Room before our stay at the historic La Posada Hotel.

Day 5

This morning we visit Tonto Natural Bridge, a natural arch believed to be the largest natural travertine bridge in the world. The area surrounding the bridge has been made into a state park called Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. After lunch at Fargo’s Steakhouse in Payson, we head back to Tucson with wonderful memories and lots of glorious photos.

For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is not included. If you feel your Tour Director helped you enjoy your tour, we suggest you enclose a gratuity in an envelope and present it individually at the end of the tour. Simply as a guideline, one may consider a per person, per day gratuity of $8.00 per tour guide as an average to be modified by one’s own personal experience. All hotel porterage and airport sky cap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers. Maid tips are not included.

For your convenience we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.
