Day 1

Our journey to the Rockies begins with a stop at the wonderfully preserved Besh-Ba-Gowah Archaeological Park, followed by lunch in Globe. Leaving the warm valley behind, we start our climb toward Colorado and stop for the night in Show Low, where we will settle in at the Hampton Inn & Suites. This offers views of the pines and an opportunity for a nature walk at the Show Low Bluffs trail, before we visit beautiful Torreon Country Club for a welcome dinner.

Day 2

After breakfast at the hotel, we tour Petrified Forest National Park in Northeast Arizona. Vast forests were covered up by muds and ash some 225 million years ago, and those trees are now colorful stone reminders of that lost age. We stop for an independent lunch in Gallup, New Mexico before arriving for the evening to the Homewood Suites at Buffalo Thunder Resort on the outskirts of Santa Fe, which offers 5 restaurants and a casino to enjoy.

Day 3

This morning we explore the Rockies by train when we ride the historic Cumbres and Toltec Railroad, which includes lunch and will take us from Chama, New Mexica to Antonito, Colorado. The vintage steam locomotive takes us into the mountains overlooking magnificent Toltec Gorge, before descending into the scenic Conejos River Valley. We wind through more mountain scenery on our way to Gunnison, Colorado, a town at 7700’ elevation surrounded by the majestic Rockies, where we will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4

We spend the morning at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, a spectacular vertical canyon landscape carved by the Gunnison River, a tributary of the Colorado River. We stop at the Visitors Center before touring the South Rim, with overlook names which match the scenery—Painted Wall, Chasm View and Gunnison Point. We stop in Montrose, Colorado, offering you many choices for lunch, then continue our mountain views through North Pass at 10,149 feet, on our way to Glenwood Springs, a mountain resort town overlooking the Colorado River. Tonight we have dinner in Glenwood Springs and lodge at the Holiday Inn Express.

Day 5

Today we travel along the Roaring Fork River to Aspen, Colorado, where we take the famed Silver Queen Gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain. In Aspen we also enjoy lunch before going to tour Redstone Castle, which was completed in 1902 for industrialist and coal magnate John Cleveland Osgood, the sixth-wealthiest man in America at the time. We end the day by checking in for a two-night stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Silverthorne, Colorado, giving us access to all the surrounding Rocky Mountain ski resort villages.

Day 6

This morning we visit the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens outside Vail, Colorado – the highest elevation botanical garden in the world, at 8200’. The Fords lived here from 1968 until late in their lives, and they were highly respected and beloved in Vail. We have plenty of wonderful dining choices at the base of scenic Vail Mountain, in the heart of the 13,000-14,000ft Colorado Rocky Mountains. This afternoon we take a guided jeep tour of the magnificent scenery that surrounds us in every direction. Tonight we enjoy a gracious farewell dinner to wrap up the tour.

Day 7

As we travel to Denver International Airport, on the plains east of Denver, we stop to enjoy the shops and restaurants in Larimer Square, the Historic district at the spot where this iconic Rocky Mountain city was founded. We fly home to Tucson with our cool memories of America’s Rocky Mountains to help us through the end of Tucson’s summer!

If you are joining the tour from locations other than Tucson, we make other arrangements for you to join the tour. Please call our office for more details.

ITINERARY

For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with the weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

AIRLINE TICKETS

You will be issued your boarding pass the afternoon of our departure back to Tucson, after your arrival at the Denver International Airport. If you have an United Airlines frequent flyer number, or a TSA number, please call our office at least 3 days prior to the tour to ensure we can note these in your reservation.

If you are joining the tour from locations other than Tucson, we make other arrangements for you to join the tour. Please call our office for more details.

AIRPORT SECURITY

Do not forget to bring your government issued picture ID to show at the airport. A Driver’s License or Passport is preferred. If you do not have the proper ID, the airline will turn you away.

BAGGAGE

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. If you check through luggage note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carryon baggage and contents due to enhanced security
measures. Attached find a list regarding commonly asked about items as well as an update. If you have further concerns, please visit the TSA's Web-site at www.tsa.gov. There is room inside the motorcoach for your hand carried bag.

CHECKED BAGGAGE FEES

On United Airlines our airline for this tour, passengers are assessed a $25 fee per checked in bag, by the Airlines, upon checking in for the flight.

EMERGENCY CONTACT

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

GRATUITIES/ITEMS INCLUDED IN PRICE

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is not included. If you feel your Tour Director helped you enjoy your tour, we suggest you enclose a gratuity in an envelope and present it individually at the end of the tour. Simply as a guideline, one may consider a per person, per day gratuity of $8.00 per tour guide as an average to be modified by one’s own personal experience. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers. Maid tips are not included.

LIVERY

For your convenience, we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

LODGING REQUESTS

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

TRAVEL REQUESTS

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.
