Day 1 - Fly Across the Atlantic

Our journey back in time begins, as we board a motorcoach in Tucson and travel to Phoenix for our overnight flight to London.

Day 2 - Fly to Cairo

We have time at the Heathrow airport in London to stretch our legs, do some duty-free shopping and have dinner before we take another overnight flight to Cairo where we arrive at our hotel in the very early morning hours and check in for some sleep.

Day 3 – Egyptian Museum & Sphinx

After a late breakfast, we meet our guide for an orientation of Egypt and our tour.  Then, we depart for the fabulous Egyptian Museum, which houses more than 100,000 antiquities dating back to 5,000 years ago! Included is a special visit to the two Royal Mummies Halls and its Un-Wrapped Mummies of the most famous kings and queens of ancient Egypt. After, we tour the ancient churches and Cave of the Holy Family in Old Cairo, and make a short visit to the Mosque of Amr ibn al-As. This evening, we are delighted by the famous Sound & Lights Show at the pyramids near the Sphinx. (B,L)

Day 4 – Great Pyramid of Giza

Today, we see the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (and the only one to remain largely intact): the Great Pyramid of Giza. Then, we enjoy lunch at a local restaurant which serves authentic Egyptian food. Our final sites for the day are the ancient Step Pyramid of King Zoser (27th century BCE) and a tomb at Sakkara, the necropolis of pharaohs during the Old Kingdom. (B,L)

Day 5 – Luxor

We fly to Luxor this morning. There, we visit the Temple of Karnak, then drive to the Temple of Luxor, used as the residence of the god Amon’s harem. Our afternoon is free to explore the city of Luxor, including shopping at Al-Souk (the old tourist market), before we board our luxurious cruise ship, the MS Concerto, for four nights. (B,L,D)

Day 6 – Valley of the Kings

Today, we are in the Valley of the Kings, known as Biban-el-Muluk (Kings’ Gates), which was the burial ground for the great pharaohs who ruled the most ancient empire that history has known. We will also visit the temple built for Queen Hatshepsut, and marvel at its unique architecture. Our excursion includes the Colossi of Memnon, once related to the Greek god of music, Apollo. We return to our ship for lunch and cruise to Edfu. (B,L,D)

Day 7 – Temple of Horus

This morning, we visit the Temple of Horus in Edfu, one of the best-preserved temples of the ancient world. Then, we continue cruising from Edfu to Kom Ombo, while we enjoy lunch. We make a short visit to the Temple of Kom Ombo, a dual temple which was built for two gods: the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god, Haroeris. Then, on we cruise to Aswan. (B,L,D)

Day 8 – Aswan High Dam

Today, we visit the Aswan High Dam, built in the 1960s to block the Nile floods, conserve water, and generate electricity. Then, on to the Temples of Philae, saved from a watery grave by UNESCO during the building of the Aswan High Dam. We also see the unfinished obelisk, more than 3,500 years old, which has provided valuable insight into how these monuments were created. We cruise the beautiful Nile while lunching aboard our ship. We continue through the Aswan National Parks to Nubaa, a colorful Nubian village and part of one of the oldest civilizations known to still exist. We return to the ship and overnight in Aswan. This evening, our special entertainment is the Nubian Dance Show at the Lounge Bar. (B,L,D)

Day 9 – Abu Simbel

Today, we fly to the thrilling World Heritage Site, Abu Simbel, and its temples. Built by the famous King Ramses II for himself and his wife Queen Nefertiti, it is another complex that was saved by UNESCO during the building of the Aswan High Dam. We fly from Abu Simbel to Cairo. Once back in Cairo, we check into our hotel for a two-night stay, enjoy its restaurants, and explore the City Stars mall.(B,D)

Day 10 – Mokkattam Mountain

Today, we visit the cave church in the Mokkattam Mountain.  We drive through the Zabbaleen community and learn about how the locals cull and recycle in Cairo and how the church started the ministry there. Lunch at el Azhar Park. (B,L)

Day 11 – Alexandria

After breakfast, we visit a Coptic monastery at Wadi Natrun, on our way to Alexandria. Here, a monk will speak to us about the history of the monastery, monastic life, and Christianity in Egypt. We have lunch in Alexandria before a visit to the New Library of Alexandria. After a guided tour in the library, we have time to explore many art galleries and museums. We check into our hotel, for a one-night stay, and enjoy a free evening, maybe including a walk by the sea. (B,L)

(B,L,D)

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. British Airlines gives an allowance of one checked bag per person. Note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 81 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carry-on baggage and contents due to enhanced security
measures. . If you have further concerns, please visit the TSA's Web-site at There is room inside on the airplanes and in the motorcoaches for your hand carried bag.

For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with the weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

The Activity Level for this tour is Active

Expectations: The tour includes well-paced walking tours with regular breaks. Up to 2-3 hours of walking each day. To fully take advantage of all this tour has to offer, guests need to be able to walk longer distances, climb several flights of stairs and navigate steps and uneven terrain walking for extended periods of time over more difficult terrain (e.g. cobblestones, city hills, stairs without handrails, limited or no access to elevators). Your itinerary can include significant changes in temperature and altitude and may require a higher number of longer travel days with morning and/or evening activities. Most trips will feature long touring days, many full-day excursions and a full and active itinerary with a faster pace and longer distances. Excursions require standing and walking to city centers where coaches are prohibited.

Appropriate for: Travelers who are physically fit, expect a vigorous pace and enjoy participating in two to three hours of physical activity per day.

Visit our Activity Level Ratings page under Plan Your Tour for full information on the ratings system.

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is included on this tour. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers and local guides. Hotel housekeeping is not included.

For your convenience, we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the world have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.

Temperatures in Egypt during our stay are usually temperate and pleasant. We advise you bring a light jacket and hat just in case of inclement weather and to wear layers for best insulation. Shoes should be comfortable and sturdy for walking in the pyramids, ruins and small towns. There are no dress codes to places we visit on this tour.
