Day 1 – Depart from Tucson

We depart Tucson on our overnight flight to Zurich.

Day 2 – Lucerne, Switzerland

We transfer to our hotel in Lucerne to begin our Swiss adventure. This afternoon we are on our own to explore and rest. Lucerne has wonderful shopping and floral displays. Perhaps we’ll stroll by the lake and watch the swans. This evening we enjoy a welcome dinner. (D)

Day 3 – Lucerne

After breakfast, an included walking tour highlights the city’s landmark – the famous 14th-century Chapel Bridge. See the 17th-century Renaissance Town Hall and town squares, all set amongst the beautiful backdrop of the Swiss Alps. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (D)

Day 4 – Lucerne & Embarkation

Before departing for our ship in Basel, the day is free in Lucerne. We have the option to explore on our own or join an excursion to Mt. Pilatus – a mountain overlooking Lucerne that offers a unique alpine experience! This evening we will have our first dinner on board our beautiful ship. (B,D)

Day 5 – Breisach, Germany

On today’s adventure in Breisach, visit a typical Black Forest village, full of charm, cuckoo clocks and other German specialties. We can see demonstrations of traditional handicrafts, each offering a glimpse into rural life in the forest.  Alternatively, take part in a guided hike through some of the Black Forest trails. (B, L, D)

Day 6 – Strasbourg, France

Once docked in Kehl, transfer by coach across the river to Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace region in France. Your guided walking tour includes the Grande Île – the historical city center and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its medieval black and white timber framed buildings, old tanning houses, baroque sandstones buildings, canals and river locks, the city’s star attraction is the cathedral, dominating the main square.  We also have the option of an excursion to Riquewihr at an additional expense. (B, L, D)

Day 7 – Mannheim & Heidelberg, Germany

We continue downstream stream to the town of Mannheim, located at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar Rivers. From there, you have the opportunity to either visit the medieval town of Heidelberg including the impressive castle which overlooks the town or take part on an active hike to Heidelberg Hill. (B, L, D)

Day 8 - Koblenz, Germany

We cruise to the 2000-year-old town of Koblenz, situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers. We enjoy a tour of Koblenz and visit the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on the opposite side of the river. This fortress was part of the Prussian defense against the French in the 19th century and later used as a headquarters for the American military during WWII. This afternoon, we sail through the spectacular Rhine Gorge and pass countless medieval castles and vineyards. There are photo opportunities around every bend! See the infamous Lorelei statue and Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, built on an island in the middle of the river as a medieval toll station. (B, L, D)

Day 9 - Cologne, Germany

Cruise along the Rhine River to Cologne. Founded by the Romans, the city is one of Germany’s oldest and famous for its magnificent world-heritage listed Gothic cathedral. After lunch onboard, we join our local guide for an included walking tour of the Old Town, with free time for exploring. Cologne is one of Germany’s largest and most modern cities largely due to a rebuilding plan post-WWII and has many museums and galleries. This evening we’ll enjoy a farewell reception and dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 10 - Amsterdam

We’ve arrived in Amsterdam, a fascinating 700-year-old city of picturesque canals, world class museums, theatres and cafés. This morning we depart by coach for an included visit to Keukenhof Gardens. We’ll discover why it’s called the ‘Garden of Europe’ as we admire gorgeous flowers at the peak of tulip season. We return to the ship for lunch and have the afternoon to explore this fascinating city on our own. (B, L, D)

Day 11 - Amsterdam to Home

We must bid ‘auf wiedersehen’ to Europe as we head to the Amsterdam airport and return home with memories of life enriching experiences from our cruise along the Rhine River. (B)

For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with the weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

You will be issued your boarding pass the morning of our departure, after your arrival at the Tucson International Airport. If you have a frequent flyer number, or a TSA number, please call our office at least 3 days prior to the tour to ensure we can note these in your reservation. If you are joining the tour from locations other than Tucson, we make other arrangements for you to join the tour. Please call our office for more details.

Do not forget to bring your government issued picture ID to show at the airport. A passport is required for travel to France. If you do not have the proper ID, the airline will turn you away.

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. If you check through luggage note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carryon baggage and contents due to enhanced security measures. Attached find a list regarding commonly asked about items as well as an update. If you have further concerns, please visit the TSA's Web-site at There is room inside the motorcoach for your hand carried bag.

On our airline for this tour, passengers may be assessed a $TBD fee per checked in bag, by the Airlines, upon checking in for the flight.

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is included. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers. Maid tips are not included.

For your convenience, we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.

Please be sure to bring a warm sweater and/or rain/winter jacket, along with good walking shoes and a hat. There are no dress codes for the areas we take you on this tour, but we recommend dressing nicely for dining aboard the ship.
