Kartchner Caverns & Ramsey Canyon Reserve

Join us for a day of caves and canyons as we tour Kartchner Caverns and Ramsey Canyon Reserve. In November 1974, Gary Tenen and Randy Tufts were exploring the limestone hills next to the Whetstone Mountains, looking “for a cave no one had ever found,” and found it! The two kept the cave a secret until February 1978 when they told the property owners, James and Lois Kartchner, about their discovery. We learn about the cave development’s endless unforeseen legal, research, planning, and construction challenges, and tour the stunning formations. After our tour we dine on box lunches before we travel to the east side of the Huachuca Mountains where we will visit Ramsey Canyon.  A spring-fed stream, favorable northeast orientation and high canyon walls provide Ramsey Canyon with a moist, cool, stable environment.  The hummingbirds like Ramsey Canyon too.  Where your hiking shoes and explore this section of Cochise Country with us!
