(D)

Day 2- Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park

This morning we enter Rocky Mountain National Park and explore Fall River, Beaver Meadows and Moraine Park taking our time to take in the natural beauty, optional short hikes or just relax and enjoy the views. Returning to town for lunch, you will have some time to explore Estes Park on your own. (B)

Day 3 - Rocky Mountain National Park

Today we once again tour Rocky Mountain National Park and climb above 14,000 feet, the highest point on the Continental Divide. We find the best spots for wildlife viewing, photographs and optional walks. We continue down the west side of the park to check in for a one-night stay in Silverthorne. (B,D)

Day 4 – White River National Forest Adventures

Today we take a mellow jeep tour with local guides through the White River National Forest, where we see wildflowers, gorgeous vistas and wildlife. This adventurous day continues with an independent lunch in Vail and time to explore town on your own. We then cross into western Colorado and stay for one night at Tru Hotel in Grand Junction. (B,L)

Day 5 – Colorado National Monument & Telluride

This morning we encounter Colorado National Monument, where towering monoliths exist within a vast plateau and canyon panorama. Experience sheer-walled, red rock canyons along the twists and turns of Rim Rock Drive, where we may spy bighorn sheep and soaring eagles. We will continue to the scenic mountain-town of Telluride for lunch and a ride on the gondola, which caps out at 10,540 feet above sea level and offers stunning 360-degree views of the San Juan Mountains that extend to Utah. We have dinner at The Stone House and stay one night at the Holiday Inn Express in Montrose. (B,D)

Day 6 - Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Today we travel to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, which surrounds part of a deep, steep-walled gorge carved through Precambrian rock by the Gunnison River. Take in views of Black Canyon’s dramatic drops and the striated Painted Wall cliff. As we descend to the river wildlife sightings may include mule deer, elk and golden eagles. This afternoon we cross back into eastern Colorado. After a stop in Salida for lunch we check-in for a three night stay in Colorado Springs. (B)

Day 7 - US Air Force Academy

The Air Force Academy [USAFA] is recognized as one of the nation’s finest four-year institutions. The curriculum provides cadets with a solid foundation for an Air Force career. There are many sights to explore on campus and today we will stop by the Visitor Center, Planetarium & STEM Center, and Cadet Chapel for the Cadet Lunch Formation. We will also take some time to enjoy the beautiful vistas from the Chapel and Athletic Overlooks, see the B-52 Bomber, T-38 Talon and an A-10 Warthog, or take an optional walk along one of the many publicly accessible trails. This afternoon we will head to Old Colorado City for some shopping and independent dinner. Colorado Avenue boasts galleries and quaint gift stores that cluster alongside jewelers and candy shops in 19th-century brick buildings. (B)

Day 8 - Garden of the Gods & Pike’s Peak National Landmarks

This morning we make our way to the Garden of the Gods National Natural Landmark, which comprises 1,300 acres of sandstone rock formations. We start in the Visitor Center at their new Geo-Trekker Theater and travel through one billion years in less than 15 minutes, plunging into deep into hot magma, seeing dinosaurs, ancient sea monsters and more, and we soar high above Garden of the Gods and see some of the most awe-inspiring aerial footage in the world. Then our park guide will join us as we take a one-hour tour through the formations. After lunch we continue to Pike’s Peak for a ride on a scenic cog railway to the top. The summit of Pike’s Peak is a National Historic Landmark that holds a special place in American history. It was this incredible view that inspired the famous lyrics to “America the Beautiful.” We enjoy a group dinner tonight in Colorado Springs. (B,D)

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. If you check through luggage note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carryon baggage and contents due to enhanced security

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is already included in the price. We also include the gratuities for local guides and the coach/livery drivers. Maid tips are not included.

For your convenience, we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.
