Christmas in Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Mexico
December 23, 2019 thru December 26, 2019
With the beautiful beaches of Puerto Peñasco, Mexico just about 4 hours away from Tucson, what a better way to spend Christmas than enjoying the blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. Also known as Rocky Point, Puerto Peñasco is in the Sonoran Desert, where Baja California meets the rest of Mexico, and renowned for the dune-backed Sandy Beach and Bahía la Choya’s tidal pools. We will travel from Tucson to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico aboard our comfortable motorcoach. In a few hours we will travel from the desert to sandy beaches and stunning ocean views. We check into the Peñasco del Sol Resort – the only beachfront hotel within walking distance of downtown attractions, restaurants, and nightlife – for a 3-night stay. This evening you can join us on an excursion to a lively beach club.
It’s Christmas Eve and after breakfast at the hotel we will spend the day getting to know Rocky Point. We tour the Malecon – the local gathering place to watch the sunsets, have concerts, people watch or shop and eat – to discover the origins of this fishing village turned resort town. You may enjoy fresh seafood or a margarita at one of the town’s famous watering holes, or shop along the old town streets. This evening, we will be treated to a special holiday meal at our hotel. (B,D)
Wake up on Christmas to the sounds of waves crashing and to a delightful brunch at the hotel. Today enjoy time at the beach or exploring the area. Sea temperature is typically in the 60s, so swimming may feel like San Diego in the summertime, if you care to take a dip. At sunset we take a cruise with an open bar and snacks on the Sea of Cortez. (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, we have more time to relax and soak up more sunshine and salty sea air, before returning home to Arizona. On the way out of town, our last stop is a tequila factory, where we learn about this famous Mexican drink, taste samples and perhaps pick up a final souvenir! (B)
