Itinerary
Day 1 - Tucson to San Diego
Today we travel to San Diego, famous for its miles and miles of white-sand beach, amazing weather and abundance of things to see and do. We check in to the Hilton Bayfront Hotel for our four-night stay.
Day 2 – Coronado Island & San Diego Symphony
This morning we board our coach and explore the area. We cross the San Diego-Coronado Bridge to Coronado Island and spend some time exploring the Hotel Del Coronado, a landmark 1880’s era hotel, and it’s Queen Anne Revival style architecture. We enjoy a group dinner this evening followed by the San Diego Symphony’s Star-Spangled Pops! It will be a patriotic extravaganza with all-American hits from Main Street to Broadway – complete with John Phillip Souza marches, a tribute to the military and a spectacular firework display to light up the night sky! Relax in your reserved seats at the Embarcadero Marina Park and enjoy the sweet summer breeze off the harbor! (B,D)
Day 3 – Independence Day Parade
We rise early and travel to Orange Avenue on Coronado Island for their 80th annual Independence Day Parade! If you are looking for flag wavers and patriots, this is the place! The parade has over 150 entries, with high stepping bands, colorful floats and special groups. We have a relaxing cruise on San Diego Bay this afternoon. What a great way to celebrate this special day! (B)
Day 4 – Balboa Park & Old Town
This morning we enjoy beautiful Balboa Park, a National Historic Landmark, where you’ll have your choice of visiting a world-class museum. The San Diego Museum of Art has a venerable collection of acclaimed works, as well as a divine sculpture garden. Or see historical aircraft and spacecraft at the San Diego Air & Space Museum. This afternoon we go to the birthplace of California at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Take a tour of some of the historic sites, visit one of several museums or shop in the one-of-a-kind boutiques before our delicious farewell dinner. (B,D)
Day 5 – Return to Arizona
Today we travel home to Tucson, refreshed from a long weekend away in gorgeous San Diego. (B)
