San Juan Islands & Victoria B.C.

September 11, 2022 thru September 17, 2022

We combine the sea and land while exploring the Pacific Northwest and get the best of the San Juan Islands. Traveling by coach and small pleasure vessel, we are captivated by seaports and burgeoning cities, all while traversing beautiful waters.

We cruise the scenic San Juan Islands, in the Strait of Juan de Fuca between the U.S. and Canada. The San Juan Islands are an archipelago in the U.S. state of Washington known for rural Pacific Northwest landscapes and wildlife. We then head into the capital of British Columbia, Victoria, for local touring. Victoria sits on the craggy southern end of Vancouver Island. With abundant parkland, it’s known for outdoor activities. The city’s British colonial past shows in its Victorian architecture and gardens, including stately Craigdarroch Castle mansion and spectacular Butchart Gardens.

Day 1 - Seattle and Bellingham

We depart Tucson and fly to Seattle, Washington. We meet our motorcoach and driver, and our first stop is the famous Pike Place Market where we can find lunch on our own while enjoying the buckets of flowers and watch the fishmongers sail their wares into the air.  We head to the Boeing Future of Flight, where we’ll see Boeing’s latest innovations. We check into our Bellingham hotel for one night and enjoy a welcome dinner together. (D)

Day 2 - Cruise the San Juan Islands

This morning after breakfast we head down to the dock in Bellingham where e board our private motor yacht for our 2 day tour of the archipelago. After clearing Bellingham we will work our way south to explore the southern end of the San Juan archipelago. We choose our route today based on current wildlife reports and weather so be on the lookout for marine mammals and birds, while our captain gives an interesting and entertaining narration about the history of the islands. We’ll quite possibly cruise past the historic Burrows Island lighthouse, as well as points of interest with names like Iceberg Point, Deadman’s Island, and Cattle Pass. A hearty homemade lunch will be served as we go. After our cruise, we dock in Friday Harbor where we relax and unwind. This delightful harbor town is filled with good restaurants, interesting shops and galleries, pubs, and home to the only museum devoted to Orca whales. (B,L,D)

Day 3

This morning we sit back and enjoy a very scenic and interesting cruise east through the narrow passages and small islands on our way to circumnavigate Fidalgo Island. We start at the North end of the narrow dredged Swinomish Channel just east of Anacortes. This interesting narrow channel will lead us to the picturesque and historic waterfront town of La Conner.  We arrive in La Conner late morning, and have time to explore this unique historic town on the banks of the Swinomish Channel with its unique shops, artist studios and galleries and bookstores, and local microbreweries.  After La Conner we head south as we continue our circumnavigation, making our way through Hole In The Wall, a natural opening through the rock cliffs leading us to Skagit Bay, where we head north to and through Deception Pass, well-known for its swift tidal flow and stunning scenery. The Deception Pass Bridge is a National Scenic Monument, and is one of the most photographed places in Washington State. As we head for Deception Pass we enjoy a San Juan Cruises tradition, an Old Fashioned Cracked Dungeness Crab lunch. While enjoying lunch we go in search of Orca Whales, Humpback Whales, Minke  Whales, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals, Harbor Porpoise, sea birds and other magnificent wildlife. Viewed in their natural environment these magnificent animals are always a treat to behold! (B,L)

Day 4

We check out of our hotel and board our yacht for the final time for our cruise back to the mainland. There we will pick up our deluxe motor coach for our drive towards Bellingham with several sights along the way. (B)

Day 5

We journey across the Canadian border and drive to Vancouver where we enjoy a tour of the city. We then take the ferry with our motorcoach to Victoria and check into the Hotel Grand Pacific, our home for two nights. (B)

Day 6

We have a full and exciting day ahead of us today. After breakfast at the hotel,  we board our motorcoach and travel to the Parliament House for a guided tour.  Our lunch takes the shape of High Tea at the Abkhazi Garden, a great way to prepare for our visit to Butchart Gardens, one of the most spectacular floral displays in the world. We return to the Grand Pacific for an evening on our own. (B, High Tea)

Day 7

We check out of our beautiful hotel and board our coach for a return to Seattle. There is time before our flight to visit the Space Needle, built for the 1962 World’s Fair, and the amazing Chihuly Garden and Glass, where we see sparkling flights of fancy.  Time to wrap up our cool, green and water-filled memories before going to SeaTac Airport to board our flight home back to the high desert, bringing images of whales, islands, and water back home with us! For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with the weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

You will be issued your boarding pass the morning of our departure, after your arrival at the Tucson International Airport. If you have an Alaska Airlines frequent flyer number, or a TSA number, please call our office at least 3 days prior to the tour to ensure we can note these in your reservation.

If you are joining the tour from locations other than Tucson, we make other arrangements for you to join the tour. Please call our office for more details.

Do not forget to bring your government issued picture ID to show at the airport. A passport is required for travel to Canada. If you do not have the proper ID, the airline will turn you away.

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. If you check through luggage note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carryon baggage and contents due to enhanced security measures. Attached find a list regarding commonly asked about items as well as an update. If you have further concerns, please visit the TSA's Web-site at There is room inside the motorcoach for your hand carried bag.

On Alaska Airlines our airline for this tour, passengers are assessed a $25 fee per checked in bag, by the Airlines, upon checking in for the flight.

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is not included. If you feel your Tour Director helped you enjoy your tour, we suggest you enclose a gratuity in an envelope and present it individually at the end of the tour. Simply as a guideline, one may consider a per person, per day gratuity of $8.00 per tour guide as an average to be modified by one’s own personal experience. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers. Maid tips are not included.

For your convenience, we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.
