We cruise the scenic San Juan Islands, an archipelago in the Strait of Juan de Fuca in Washington between the U.S. and Canada, known for rural Pacific Northwest landscapes and wildlife. We have our own private motor yacht for the tour, so this should be a spectacular voyage.

Please note that as of May 28, 2021 the Canadian border was closed to travel from the US, which impacted the portion of the tour going to Victoria, British Columbia. We will be traveling to Victoria  when we run this tour again in 2022

Day 1 – Arrival in Seattle & San Juan Islands Cruise Departure

We fly from Tucson to Bellingham, Washington, where we board our private motor yacht for our 4 day tour. After clearing Bellingham we will work our way south to explore the southern end of the San Juan archipelago. We chose our route today based on current wildlife reports and weather so be on the lookout for marine mammals and birds, while our captain gives an interesting and entertaining narration about the history of the islands. We’ll quite possibly cruise past the historic Burrows Island lighthouse, as
well as points of interest with names like Iceberg Point, Deadman’s Island, and
Cattle Pass. A hearty homemade lunch will be served as we go.

Relax and unwind in your Friday Harbor Suites studios, with soothing décor, natural colors and comfortable furnishings. This delightful harbor town is filled with good restaurants, interesting shops and galleries, pubs, and home to the only museum devoted to Orca whales. Tonight you have dinner and the evening on your own in Friday Harbor, with  lots of great places for dinner or drinks at your leisure. (L)

Day 2 – Cruise to LaConner / Whale and Wildlife Search

This morning sit back and enjoy a very scenic and interesting cruise east through
the narrow passages and small islands on our way to circumnavigate Fidalgo Island.
We start at the North end of the narrow dredged Swinomish Channel just east of Anacortes. This interesting narrow channel will lead us to the picturesque and
historic waterfront town of La Conner.  We arrive in La Conner late morning, and you’ll have time to explore this unique historic town on the banks of the Swinomish Channel. Enjoy the new boardwalk that runs nearly the length of town and spend your time browsing unique shops, artist studios and galleries and bookstores, or stop in a local microbrewery for a cold one. A very popular Northwest destination, you’ll enjoy your
time in this vibrant artist enclave. After La Conner we head south as we continue our
circumnavigation, making our way through Hole In The Wall, a natural opening
through the rock cliffs leading us to Skagit Bay, where we head north to and through Deception Pass, well-known for it’s swift tidal flow and stunning scenery. The Deception Pass Bridge is a National Scenic Monument, and is one of the most photographed places in Washington State. As we head for Deception Pass get ready for a San Juan Cruises tradition, you’ll enjoy an Old Fashioned Cracked Dungeness Crab lunch. While you’re enjoying lunch we go in search of Orca Whales, Humpback Whales, Minke  Whales, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals, Harbor Porpoise, sea birds and other magnificent wildlife. Viewed in their natural environment these magnificent animals are always a treat to behold! We arrive back in Friday Harbor, where you may enjoy the evening on your own. (B,L)

Day 3 – Cruise to Orcas Island - Tour Moran State Park and Mt. Constitution / Wildlife Cruise

We have a full and exciting day ahead of us today. After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a beautiful morning on the water as we make our way North in San Juan Channel to Wasp passage, a stunningly beautiful narrow passage named after the USS Wasp by Charles Wilkes from the 1838 United States Exploring Expedition. Upon our arrival at Rosario Resort in East Sound, Orcas Island, we’ll be met by our motorcoach that will take us to the top of the highest point in the San Juan archipelago, Mt. Constitution. You’ll have the opportunity to climb to the top of the classic stone observation tower. From the top of the tower you can see all of the islands that surround us and make up the archipelago, look east and you’ll find Bellingham with Mt. Baker in the background, look West and there is Vancouver Island. Back on the ground your guide will then take you back through Moran State Park to the quaint town of East Sound where you’ll get an opportunity to explore the shops and galleries before heading back to Rosario.
Departing East Sound we’ll set off to explore the western islands of the San Juan
archipelago and of course keep a sharp eye out for all the fantastic wildlife that
lives in this marine environment, while enjoying a freshly prepared lunch on board.
After our late afternoon arrival back In Friday Harbor, we dine at Downriggers Restaurant, overlooking the Friday Harbor Marina, where you’ll experience the best in Pacific Northwest dining. After dinner take advantage of the beautiful evening and window shop your way back to your hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 4 – Cruise & Victoria

We meet up in the lobby of the hotel to board the motor-coach for a San Juan Island
guided tour. With comprehensive knowledge of the island, the people and history
of the islands your driver will take you to several of the most extraordinary
spots on the island such as: Lime Kiln StatePark / Whale Watch Park, the Alpaca
Ranch, English Camp – San Juan Island National Historic Park, Roche Harbor Resort
and Westcott Bay Sculpture Park. This afternoon, after your most enjoyable time in Friday Harbor for lunch, we’ll once again board to continue on the final leg of our voyage, taking us through channels and past islands not yet explored before exchanging farewells in Bellingham late afternoon. As always we’ll be on the look out for the wide variety of wildlife that inhabits the San Juan Island archipelago. Tonight, we lodge in Bellingham, where we will also have a farewell group dinner. For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with the weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

You will be issued your boarding pass the morning of our departure, after your arrival at the Tucson International Airport. If you have an Alaska Airlines frequent flyer number, or a TSA number, please call our office at least 3 days prior to the tour to ensure we can note these in your reservation.

If you are joining the tour from locations other than Tucson, we make other arrangements for you to join the tour. Please call our office for more details.

Do not forget to bring your government issued picture ID to show at the airport. If you do not have the proper ID, the airline will turn you away.

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. If you check through luggage note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carryon baggage and contents due to enhanced security measures. Attached find a list regarding commonly asked about items as well as an update. If you have further concerns, please visit the TSA's Web-site at There is room inside the motorcoach for your hand carried bag.

On Alaska Airlines our airline for this tour, passengers are assessed a $35 fee per checked in bag, by the Airlines, upon checking in for the flight.

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is not included. If you feel your Tour Director helped you enjoy your tour, we suggest you enclose a gratuity in an envelope and present it individually at the end of the tour. Simply as a guideline, one may consider a per person, per day gratuity of $8.00 per tour guide as an average to be modified by one’s own personal experience. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers. Maid tips are not included.

For your convenience, we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.
