Day 1 - Tucson to Santa Fe

We’ll travel east by motorcoach to Santa Fe. After a stop for lunch in Deming, New Mexico, we arrive in the evening to check into the Inn & Spa at Loretto with its iconic adobe architecture adjacent to the historic Plaza for our 4-night stay. Tonight, we enjoy a group welcome dinner, where you’ll get to know your tour guide and other travelers. (D)

Day 2 – Santa Fe In-Depth plus Opera

Today we explore Santa Fe by foot, focused on the Historic Plaza and exploring the art, architecture, history, and food of Santa Fe’s streets and alleyways. Santa Fe is compact and filled with historic Spanish Mission and adobe architecture. This morning a local step-on guide will take us on a walking tour of historic Santa Fe Plaza, with a stop at the Chapel of Loretto and in the afternoon we embark on a 2.5 – 4 hour afternoon tour of the best of Santa Fe food & drink, including a visit to Canyon Road, a magical half-mile of fine art, great shopping, and exquisite dining in the Historic District of Santa Fe. (B,L)

Day 3 – Museums of Santa Fe

This morning we visit the Georgia O’Keefe Museum, which lets us explore the life, art and legacy of the modernistic painter. A visit to the O’Keefe Museum offers insight not only into the artist’s paintings, but also her creative process and the light and landscape that inspired her. After an independent lunch, we go to Museum Hill to visit the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Museum of International Folk Art and Santa Fe Botanical Garden. Independent dinner tonight. (B)

Optional: Enjoy a Santa Fe Opera performance of The Lord of Cries, if available https://www.santafeopera.org/whats-on/the-lord-of-cries-2/

You have been asked once.

He lands tonight, on his ship of ghosts, under the scudding skies. His high, thin voice – Ecstasy and ruin! Dracul, Dracula: the Lord of Cries! Deny him not his place.

John Corigliano and Mark Adamo’s exciting new work is a juxtaposition of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and The Bacchae by Euripides. The result is a searing account that points to the monster inside ourselves, not society. This world premiere production is led by director James Darrah who has created a dream-like realm that will frighten and excite.

Day 4 – El Santuario de Chimayo, Glass, Sculpture Weaving, & M. Butterfly

Our exploration of Santa Fe culture continues with visit to two workshops, the Shidoni Gallery and Sculpture Gardens and Teseque Glassworks, where we see a demonstration of glass-blowing. Lunch today is at El Rancho de Chimayo, a restored ancestral family home serving up delicious food and traditions. Then on to El Santuario de Chimayo for a guided tour. With its thick adobe walls, two bell towers and a six-foot crucifix, this small church is considered a prime example of Spanish Colonial architecture. The shrine at the site is a National Historic Landmark and some believe the dirt at the site has healing properties. We enjoy a group dinner before we take in the night performance of the Marriage of Figaro at the Santa Fe Opera.(B,L,D)

The Marriage of Figaro

https://www.santafeopera.org/whats-on/the-marriage-of-figaro/

Stand back and let love conquer.

What’s a bride to do to stop the unwanted advances of her employer? She teams up with his wife to teach him a lesson in fidelity.

Laurent Pelly’s new production of this timeless classic spins this 24-hour tale like clockwork and reveals that love, especially when paired with wit, can conquer all.

Day 5 – Santa Fe to Tucson

Now fully immersed in the cultural scene of Santa Fe, we board our motorcoach to take all we have learned back home with us. (B)
