Arizona Heritage Center & Pueblo Grande Museum

March 20, 2019

Travel with us to a pair of outstanding museums and a delicious lunch! First, the Arizona Historical Society – proud steward of Arizona’s history. Their amazing collection of more than three million objects provides constantly changing exhibits of past and contemporary subjects, such as Arizona’s native American background and cultural diversity, water, ranching, mining, settlement, agriculture and urban development. After a lunch at Bobby Q in Mesa, we will then visit Pueblo Grande Museum, a National Historic Landmark, open since 1929, and the largest preserved archaeological site within Phoenix. A fully accessible 2/3-mile trail takes you through a prehistoric Hohokam archaeological village, a partially excavated platform mound, ballcourt, and replicated prehistoric houses. There are three galleries inside the Museum featuring the valley’s remarkable prehistoric irrigation canals, Hohokam artifacts, and a thoughtfully-stocked museum store.
