Day 1 - Home to Waco

We’ll fly to Dallas, journey into the heart of Texas and check into our Waco hotel for two-night stay. Tonight’s welcome dinner takes us to Diamondback’s Steakhouse.

Day 2 - Waco

If you are a fan of Fixer Upper or enjoy fantastic design and workmanship, you’ll love our full day in Waco. We start with a city tour of the Brazos River, Baylor University, historic district, famous suspension bridge and, of course, Magnolia Market. We’ll have a group lunch and then visit the Dr. Pepper Museum in the town where the drink started, at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store. This afternoon we’ll visit the Waco Mammoth National Monument, one of the most important paleontological sites in North America.

Day 3 - Waco to Austin

This morning we explore what makes Waco an American craftsmanship mecca, starting at the Homestead Craft Village, featuring everything from knitting, pottery and basketry shops, and a gristmill. Then it’s on to The Silos. The centerpiece of this section of town is Magnolia, which is the famed décor shop founded by Joanna Gaines. You’ll have plenty of time to shop, visit the garden, or dine at Silos Baking Co., the Magnolia Market Restaurant or a food truck. We then travel to Austin, where we tour the historic State Capitol and check into our hotel for our two-night stay and have dinner in the city.

Day 4 - Austin

Today we visit quaint Fredericksburg, in the Hill Country, and tour the Lyndon B. Johnson Ranch, the home of the famed Texas White House. This evening back in Austin we’ll go to The White Horse, a honky-tonk known for its nightly live music.

Day 5 - Austin to San Antonio

This morning we venture on to San Antonio, one of the oldest Spanish colonies of the European settlements in Texas and the site of The Alamo, where the famed standoff for Texan independence from Mexico took place with James Bowie, William Travis, and Davy Crockett enduring 13 courageous, if not successful, days. We take a walking tour of the city and visit the San Antonio Mission San Jose. The city is famous for its festive Riverwalk, and our hotel for the next two nights is right on the river.

Day 6 - San Antonio

Today we enjoy a day of touring wonderful San Antonio, including Historic Market Square, the San Antonio Botanical Garden and the Witte Museum. Architectural Digest named the Garden “one of the most beautifully designed gardens in America,” and the Museum underwent a $100 million renovation in 2014 and is known as one of the leading history museums in the country. Tonight, to cap off our Heart of Texas Tour, we’ll have a farewell dinner atop The Tower of the Americas.

Day 7 - San Antonio to Home

Our week in the heart of Texas firmly held in our hearts, we fly home from San Antonio.

Activity Level Rating

Level 2: Relaxed

Expectations: This tour requires light physical activity combined with shorter travel days. Tour members should expect intermittent walking, with occasional slight inclines and stair climbs, including boarding the motorcoach. Activities may include an occasional city or nature walking tour, stopping along the way. Guests should be able to climb a set of stairs, walk up or down slight slopes and navigate some uneven terrain or cobblestone.

Appropriate for: Travelers who are somewhat physically fit and comfortable with longer days of touring (both walking tours and coach time).

Visit our Activity Level Ratings page under Plan Your Tour for full information on the ratings system.

ITINERARY

For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with the weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

AIRLINE TICKETS

You will be issued your boarding pass the morning of our departure, after your arrival at the Tucson International Airport. If you have an American Airlines frequent flyer number, or a TSA number, please call our office at least 3 days prior to the tour to ensure we can note these in your reservation.

If you are joining the tour from locations other than Tucson, we make other arrangements for you to join the tour. Please call our office for more details.

AIRPORT SECURITY

Do not forget to bring your government issued picture ID to show at the airport. A Driver’s License or Passport is preferred. If you do not have the proper ID, the airline will turn you away.

BAGGAGE

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. If you check through luggage note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carryon baggage and contents due to enhanced security
measures. Attached find a list regarding commonly asked about items as well as an update. If you have further concerns, please visit the TSA's Web-site at www.tsa.gov. There is room inside the motorcoach for your hand carried bag.

CHECKED BAGGAGE FEES

On American Airlines, our airline for this tour, passengers are assessed a $30 fee per checked in bag, by the Airlines, upon checking in for the flight.

EMERGENCY CONTACT

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

GRATUITIES/ITEMS INCLUDED IN PRICE

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is not included. If you feel your Tour Director helped you enjoy your tour, we suggest you enclose a gratuity in an envelope and present it individually at the end of the tour. Simply as a guideline, one may consider a per person, per day gratuity of $8.00 per tour guide as an average to be modified by one’s own personal experience. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers. Maid tips are not included.

LIVERY

For your convenience, we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

LODGING REQUESTS

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

TRAVEL REQUESTS

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.
