Day 1 – Fly to Rome!

We depart from the Tucson for our overnight flight.

Day 2 – Rome

Welcome to Rome! After leaving our bags at our centrally located hotel, we have the afternoon free to explore. This evening, we meet our local Tour Guide and enjoy a welcome dinner at the traditional Tanagra Restaurant with wine and music. We lodge for two nights in Rome in our centrally located hotel. (B,D)

Day 3 – Rome

While mythology dates the founding of Rome at around 753 BC, the site has been inhabited for much longer, making it one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Europe. Today we are joined by our local guide to tour the Vatican Museum complex, including the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. Ancient Rome comes to life during our visit to the Coliseum, Palatine Hill, and the Imperial Forums. Dinner is on our own. (B,L)

Day 4 – Orvieto & Radda

We begin our travels north, with a stop at Orvieto. We have a walking tour with a local guide and take a funicular ride. We continue to the delightful medieval town of Radda in Chianti to lodge for 2 nights. We dine tonight at Dario Cecchini’s  very special restaurant – you might have seen him on Netflix’ Chef’s Table! (B,L,D)

Day 5 – Tuscany

Today we see two of Tuscany’s most fabled towns. In Siena, known for its brick building-lined narrow streets, we join our local guide for a walking tour, before visiting the Tenuta Torciano Winery for wine tasting and a barbecue lunch.  We continue to San Gimignano, an Italian hill town with a skyline of medieval towers and encircled by 13th-century walls. Within the walls, the well-preserved buildings include notable examples of both Romanesque and Gothic architecture, with outstanding examples of secular buildings as well as churches. Now it is time for a gelato tasting – at one of the best gelaterias in the world – Dondoli! (B,L)

Day 6 – Cinque Terre

We leave Siena and continue to the port city of La Spezia, our entrance to Cinque Terre. On the way, we’ll stop at an authentic farmhouse in Montecarlo, where we will participate in a cooking class, preparing our lunch of typical Tuscan dishes to enjoy with wine. We lodge in La Spezia for 2 nights. (B,L)

Day 7 – Ligurian Villages

Today we take boat rides with our local guide from La Spezia to Portovenere, then to Vernazza, and finally to Monterosso. We get to see the amazing tiny villages that cling to the steep hillsides rising from the Ligurian sea. Paths, trains, and boats connect the villages, and cars cannot reach them from the outside. We lunch in an ancient winery in Vernazza and enjoy Ligurian specialties and wines – YUM! We return to La Spezia via train. (B,L)

Day 8 - Florence

We leave the Ligurian coast behind and head back into the heart of Tuscany, the city of Florence. On our way, we stop in Pisa, home of the renowned tower, and in Lucca, famous for its intact Renaissance-era city walls. We enjoy walking tours of both towns, before arriving at our centrally located, Florentine hotel for dinner and 3 nights lodging. (B,D)

Day 9 - Chianti

A scenic drive takes us into the Chianti region, where we will enjoy a visit to a traditional vineyard, lunch and a wine-tasting. Afterwards we have free time to explore sites just a stone’s throw from our hotel such as the Ponte Vecchio, the medieval stone-arch pedestrian bridge over the Arno River that’s packed with jewelry stores. Across the bridge is the massive Palazzo Pitti, once home to the powerful Medici family, showing works by such renowned artists as Raphael and Titian. (B,L)

Day 10 - Florence

Today we enjoy Florence and all its Renaissance glory.  We make the short walk to the Accademia Gallery where we explore with a local guide. The Gallery houses many extraordinary Renaissance sculptures and paintings including Michelangelo’s Prisoners, his St. Matthew and, above all, the magnificent statue of David.  We have more free time this afternoon to explore Florence. Perhaps the Uffizi Gallery which exhibits Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and da Vinci’s “Annunciation,” or the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with its iconic red-tiled dome, colored marble facade & elegant Giotto tower. (B)

Day 11 - Rome

Today we leave Tuscany and return to Rome. Along the way, we stop in Perugia for walking tour with a local guide and a chocolate tasting. Upon reaching Rome, we visit colorful Trastevere, a funky, bohemian area that clings to its centuries-old, working-class roots. Here we enjoy a street food walking tour with wine tastings with a local expert. Tonight, we’re back in our centrally located Rome hotel for our delicious Farewell Dinner. (B,D)

Day 12 - Fly Home

We fly back to Tucson today, with tasty and wonderful memories of Tuscany, Rome, and Cinque Terre.

Itinerary subject to change.

ITINERARY

For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with the weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

AIRLINE TICKETS

You will be issued your boarding pass the morning of our departure, after your arrival at the Tucson International Airport. If you have a frequent flyer number, or a TSA number, please call our office at least 3 days prior to the tour to ensure we can note these in your reservation. If you are joining the tour from locations other than Tucson, we make other arrangements for you to join the tour. Please call our office for more details.

AIRPORT SECURITY

Do not forget to bring your government issued picture ID to show at the airport. A passport is required for travel to Italy. If you do not have the proper ID, the airline will turn you away.

BAGGAGE

We have arranged for handling for one piece of luggage per person regarding the skycaps (where available) and hotels. If you check through luggage note that the maximum weight for the checked piece of luggage is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height). If your bag weighs over 50 pounds the airlines will levy an extra fee that you will be responsible to pay. If you feel the need to lock your checked through luggage and your bag is searched, your lock could be damaged in the process. You can purchase a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) accepted and recognized lock at any luggage store. Make sure you ask for a TSA approved lock. These locks are the kind that TSA screeners can open by using a special tool without breaking. Passengers can carry-on 1 bag (dimensions are limited to 10x16x24 inches), plus a personal type bag, like a purse. We advise that you pack your carry-on lightly. There are restrictions regarding your carryon baggage and contents due to enhanced security measures. Attached find a list regarding commonly asked about items as well as an update. If you have further concerns, please visit the TSA's Web-site at www.tsa.gov. There is room inside the motorcoach for your hand carried bag.

CHECKED BAGGAGE FEES

On our airline for this tour, passengers are assessed a $TBD fee per checked in bag, by the Airlines, upon checking in for the flight.

EMERGENCY CONTACT

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

GRATUITIES/ITEMS INCLUDED IN PRICE

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is included. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers. Maid tips are not included.

LIVERY

For your convenience, we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time. (These times can vary up to 15 minutes depending on traffic.)

LODGING REQUESTS

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

TRAVEL REQUESTS

We pay close attention to your requests but please realize that these are merely requests and cannot be guaranteed.
